The Children's Advocacy Center of Comal County desperately needs a new facility for two reasons:
 
1. To be able to provide on site counseling services to children and families, and
2. To be able to give on site forensic medical examinations to children in cases of suspected abuse.
 
The CACCC is not providing these services ONLY because there is insufficient physical space at our current rented facility.
 
 
 
WHAT IS A FORENSIC MEDICAL EXAMINATION?
 
Children who have been abused often have NO physical signs of abuse on their bodies. Sometimes, however, kids do have physical evidence of the abuse on them and this evidence needs to be collected from the child's body in a non-traumatic and professional manner.
 
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE Nurse) performs the medical examination and collects evidence off of the child's body that will be sent in for DNA and other forensic tests.
 
Currently in Comal County, SANE Exams occur for children who need them at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital. Although the hospital provides an important service for children, the hospital environment is not a comfortable and private one for children who have been sexually or physically abused.
 
Having an on site examination room will be a way for children to have an exam while in a comfortable, child-friendly environment that is private.
 
 
 
STATUS OF THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
 
In September 2010, the CACCC purchased property in New Braunfels thanks to a grant from the Community Development Block Grant in New Braunfels.
