What is a Children’s Advocacy Center?
A CAC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. In Texas, CACs are evaluated and supported by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas. The CAC of Texas is a nonprofit agency that oversees all of the CACs in the entire state and contracts through the Texas Attorney General’s Office to provide training, some funding, technical assistance and evaluation to local CACs, like the Children’s Advocacy Center of Comal County.
History of the CACCC
The CACCC was incorporated in February 2004 as a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) agency. An Interagency Agreement was executed in June 2004 formalizing a cooperative agreement between law enforcement officials, the District Attorney, Child Protective Services and mental health counselors. In September 2004, the CACCC was accepted as a member of the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas. Additionally, the CACCC is a United Way affiliated agency. Currently, there are 15 Directors sitting on the Board, and a Strategic Plan was written in January 2008 that included short and long term goals for the organization.
Community Outreach
Community involvement is essential to keeping the CACCC a vibrant, growing organization. If you would like for the CACCC to come to your office or organization to give a presentation regarding either the CACCC’s goals and purpose or a presentation regarding child abuse, please contact Trendy Sharp, Executive Director, at (830)626-2543.
